Solids & surfaces
Breps, extrusions, surfaces and meshes are tessellated and written as real IFC Brep geometry — curved NURBS faces included, at the mesh quality you choose.
Isometra RHINO2IFC is a Rhino plug-in that exports what is actually in the model — Breps, extrusions, surfaces and meshes, curves (lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, polylines and NURBS), blocks (expanded recursively) and text — to IFC2X3. Not a single-vendor exporter: whatever object types your model has, you choose which ones to send.
Most CAD-to-IFC exporters only understand one modelling tool's own custom entities. RHINO2IFC works on the Rhino object types themselves, so it works on models from any discipline.
Breps, extrusions, surfaces and meshes are tessellated and written as real IFC Brep geometry — curved NURBS faces included, at the mesh quality you choose.
Lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, polylines and NURBS curves export as IFC curves — the geometry that solids-only exporters simply drop.
Block instances are expanded recursively into their real geometry, exactly like Rhino's own Explode — nested blocks included.
Text, text dots and points carry through as IFC annotations, so labels and reference points are not silently lost.
Scans the selection or the whole document, lists every object type found with a count, and lets you check or uncheck exactly which ones to export.
Convert a folder of .3dm models in the background, without opening each one in Rhino — the same window shows progress for every file.
A window inside Rhino, not just commands. Menu, progress bar and a log of what was exported and what was skipped — every command also works from the Rhino command line, for scripting.
Read the FAQSelect objects, or export a whole document — or a whole folder of models — in one pass.
RHINO2IFC lists every object type it found, with a count, and you check which ones actually get exported.
A signed, valid IFC2X3 file (plus a zipped copy and an OBJ preview), with the objects you chose.
RHINO2IFC runs inside your own Rhino, on your PC. Nothing is uploaded.
Rhino 7 or Rhino 8, 64-bit, on Windows. It installs as a plug-in and loads automatically the next time Rhino starts — no manual drag-and-drop needed (though that always works too, as a fallback).
No — curves and surfaces are tessellated/sampled, the same way a mesh export works in any 3D tool. A curved surface becomes a triangulated IFC Brep, not an IFC NURBS surface; a NURBS curve becomes a sampled polyline. Shapes come through correctly, just not as exact parametric geometry.
They are listed in the type picker as not supported in this version (currently hatches and dimensions) and skipped, counted separately from what was exported, so nothing silently vanishes without you knowing.
The free edition always works — no account, no time limit — with a cap of 25 entities per export and 3 files per batch. A licence removes the cap.
Nowhere. RHINO2IFC runs inside your own Rhino and writes files to your own Documents folder. Nothing is uploaded.
